GREAT OPPORTUNITY!
This freshwater boat was acquired in 2006 by MetalCraft Marine Inc as a customer events boat. She was purchased for $25,000 in average condition and has had many upgrades to bring her back to better than original condition. WE now have a good opportunity to acquire a larger cruiser at an attractive price and so offer an equally good deal.
Though there are many Carver 28?s for sale you will not find a cleaner boat or engine room with all mechanical and electrical components operating at 100% or they were replaced. When we were looking for boats the Carver 28 was clearly the boat that met our needs. It is an extremely large small boat and you can entertain many on board and it can sleep four comfortably without dismantling the table. You can sit 5-6 comfortably on the flybridge. It is quiet when underway due to its external mufflers whether operating the boat from the flybridge or the inside helm. All Carver 28?s have a serious trim problem as their large fuel tanks are located in the engine room beside the V-8 305 engines so there is huge weight aft, negatively affecting trim. The standard factory design with all this weight aft has very high bow up trim when coming up on plane and also needs higher speeds to plane. We adjusted the boat?s longitudinal center of gravity (LCG) forward so the boat would plane easier and at lower speeds hence reducing fuel consumption and providing a larger window of planing speeds for various wave conditions. The boat will now plane at 16-17 MPH, top speed is 26-27 MPH. The main weight adjustment was by adding 5 large AGM 105 Amp hour house batteries forward so there is ample battery power when cruising.
If you look at other C-28?s you will often find water in the bilge. Beware this is a sign of a leaky boat. Shaft logs, muffler seals, engine hatch gutters are often the sources. Any FRP boat with sitting bilge water is prone to wet rotting engine bearers. Before we purchased the boat we had the entire hull including engine and hull stringers and superstructure ultra-sounded to ensure there were no damaging moisture levels any where in the boat. We have the 2006 survey available for review.
Like any older boat there is often cosmetic and sometimes key mechanical work that needs to be upgraded. We knew this when we purchased the boat and can attest that all work was professionally done by our own staff or sub-contractors. We have included the costs for these items to inform buyers of what a low cost boat will cost after purchase if you want a well appointed boat. A $20,000 Carver 28 could cost $40,000 after you have upgraded the boat. You cannot get all of that money back at resale.

Engines have had a recent tuneup 2010 and have always used Castrol Synthetic oil changed every 100 hours or less at end of season. Impellers were replaced and water pumps checked for wear. Engine hours have not been tampered with. Beware of artificially low hours on 25 year old boats. They are unbelievable and not true. There are 25 year old boats listed on line with 600 hours stated. That equals 24 hours per year. The boat has always been stored shrinkwrapped. There are no interior leaks or evidence of any previous leaking. Cabin head liner is clean with no sags anywhere. All windows seal completely.
The interior has upgraded teak trim and is much like a trawler interior. There are wide side decks for walking forward and a transom door to step out onto the swim platform and ladder. There is immense storage on the boat, more than most 32-36? boats. Your wife will love this boat. Two hanging closets, 12 X deep drawers, 9 X large cupboards and the head is very roomy. You will love the boat for service, the entire floor of the cabin is made up of hatches, you can access all plumbing, access the hull, wiring, throughout the boat, there is decking in the engine room, 3 X large engine hatches cover the entire cockpit with 360 degree access to the engines, room for a portable genset. There have been no gilhickies attached to walls or woodwork. All teak is clean and unmarked. She looks like a 5-6 year old boat. There is enough battery power to use the microwave and kettle without shorepower. When you have dinner at the teak dining table you have a 360 view from her expansive opening windows. You will get nothing but compliments wherever you dock or anchor. They don?t build Carvers like this anymore.
This is a great little cruiser and ready to sail, call to make an appointment today.
